Monmouth County is home to many parks that each offers a number of outdoor activities ranging from hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding to fishing, archery, golf, and kayaking. A calendar of events, programs, and children’s camp activities can be found on the Monmouth County Parks Service Webpage along with a list of upcoming park improvements and opportunities to volunteer and get involved with the Parks Service.

Trail Ratings and Courtesy

Trails of varying difficulty offer visitors a different experience with each park visit. Most trails in the Monmouth County Park System are open to walkers, runners, bicyclists, and equestrians. Safe multiple use requires common courtesy and cooperation. It is important to obey rules of protocol for yielding right-of-way when pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians meet on the trail: cyclists yield to all other trail users and pedestrians yield to horses.

Please stay on the trails as they are the safest and best routes through the parks. By leaving the trail you may be damaging sensitive natural resources and habitats. Rules and regulations are posted throughout each park with the intent of preserving the solitude and keeping all visitors safe. Responsible trail use by individuals means an enjoyable experience for everyone.

The Trails of the Monmouth County Park System Brochure is a fast and easy way to find new trails to explore as well as learn trail etiquette and safety.

Regional Trails

The Henry Hudson Trail and Union Transportation Trail are not your average parks. The Monmouth County Parks Service has converted the county’s aging unused rail lines to long distance trails in order to connect more of Monmouth County. These regional trails cross numerous man-made and natural landscaped connecting multiple downtown areas and public transportation facilities together. The Monmouth County Parks Service is working diligently to continue the extension of these trails into more municipalities and even neighboring counties.
