Monmouth County Surrogate
Rosemarie D. Peters, Esq., is serving in her fifteenth year as Monmouth County Surrogate. She was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve on its Judiciary-Surrogate Liaison Committee and its Advisory Committee on Public Access to Court Records. She has also served as President of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey and is currently a member of their Board of Trustees. She is a member of the New Jersey and Monmouth County Bar Associations.
Before being elected Surrogate, Mrs. Peters was a member of the Middletown Township Committee for 18 years, four of them as Mayor and three as Deputy Mayor. She is also a former member of the Middletown Township Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. She initiated and chaired the township’s Open Space Preservation Committee and is the founder, past president, and a current trustee of the Middletown Township Cultural and Arts Council.
Mrs. Peters is a past member of the Executive Board and Legislative Review Committee of the NJ State League of Municipalities. She is also a former member of the Monmouth County Environmental Council; former board member of the Monmouth County Mental Health Association; and former president of the Middletown Township League of Women Voters.
She was named Resident of the Year by the Jersey Shore Chapter of American Institute of Architects for her leadership in developing the Middletown Arts Center; was named an Outstanding Alumna of Brookdale Community College; and received an Award of Excellence from the Mid-State Arts Resource Team.
Mrs. Peters worked as director of Public Relations for The McCall Publishing Co., New York City, and held various other positions in advertising, public relations and editorial work. She is a graduate of Rutgers School of Law-Newark, Thomas A. Edison State College, and Brookdale Community College.
