Superintendent of Elections/Commissioner of Registration
The duties and responsibilities of the Monmouth County Superintendent of Elections and Commissioner of Registration are extensive and wide range. They include the responsibility for supervision of all elections in Monmouth County, the custody and maintenance of 502,132 voter records, voter registration, the custody and maintenance of 1062 voting machines and 1132 electronic poll books. This office is also responsible for enforcement of all voter registration election laws and ensuring compliance with National Voting Rights Act.

The Monmouth County Superintendent of Elections Office works in conjunction with the Monmouth County Clerk and the Monmouth County Board of Elections under strict compliance of the election laws set forth by the State of New Jersey.
Did You Know?
The first election in New Jersey dates to 1668, in the colonial era. This was held in the colony of East Jersey, shortly after English control was established. Settlers gathered in Elizabethtown (now Elizabeth) to elect representatives to a colonial assembly.
By 1702, East and West Jersey unified to form New Jersey, these were colonial times with colonial governors.
In 1776, New Jersey State Constitution was created, Governors served a one-year appointed term, appointed by the legislature. William Livingston was the first and the longest serving governor, he died in office and was re-appointed 14 times!
In 1844, Governors were elected to a three-year term and could not serve right after themselves.
1947, the Constitution made the term 4 years, with a two-term limit. Alfred E Driscoll being the first to serve that term.
