 Senior citizen art show contest winners announced
71 local artists recognized

MANALAPAN, NJ – Winners in the 2012 Monmouth County Senior Citizen Juried Art Contest & Exhibition were recognized at an artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony today at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, Symmes Drive. 

Freeholder Director John P. Curley and Office on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans Services Executive Director Michael T. Ruane awarded certificates of appreciation to all of the participating artists. Winners in each of the 11 categories received first-, second-, third-place and honorable-mention ribbons. The winners and categories are listed below.

"I am impressed with the diversity of talent demonstrated by our senior citizens,” Curley said. “It was an honor to meet and share their public recognition and marvel at the quality of their artwork."

Winning Best in Show were Nat Regan of Ocean Township in the professional category for his drawing “Tough Times II,” and Lois Wilkes of Middletown in the nonprofessional category for her photograph entitled “Ferries in the Mist.”

“Each year we are elated to showcase our senior art at the county library’s Manalapan location during the entire month of July,” Ruane said. “These talented members of our community bring decades of experience to life through their artwork.”

Judges were James Kent, Ellen Martin and Richard Berger of the Monmouth County Arts Council. The artwork is on display until July 31 at the Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Dr. Photographs of the winning artwork also are posted on the county’s Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com/aging.

First-place winners from each of the 11 categories will compete in the New Jersey Association of Area Agencies on Aging State Senior Citizens Annual Juried Art Contest and Exhibition, to be held in September at the Meadow Lakes community in East Windsor.
