Historic Preservation Grant Program

2026 HISTORIC PRESERVATION GRANT PROGRAM

The Monmouth County Historical Commission (MCHC), established by the Board of County Commissioners, is dedicated to preserving our county's rich architectural heritage. Our Historic Preservation Grant Program helps municipalities and non-profit organizations financially by offering matching funds for restoration projects on historic structures.

Who can apply?
Municipalities and non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply. Due to a New Jersey Supreme Court Ruling, active houses of worship are no longer eligible.

Grant details:

  • Matching funds: We provide matching funds on a dollar-for-dollar basis, with a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $10,000.
  • Competitive process: Grants are awarded competitively, so highlight the project's value in your application.

Important Reminder: Obtaining two reliable bids can be time-consuming, so start preparing early!

Grant Workshop: Monday, September 22, 2025 at 6 p.m.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend a grant workshop available in-person and virtually. RSVP to Meg The link to the workshop will be sent to those that RSVP. The in-person workshop will be held in the Planning Board Conference Room on the 2nd floor of the Hall of Records Annex located at 1 East Main St., Freehold.
