Glimmer
Glass Bridge reopens
MANASQUAN, NJ – The Glimmer Glass Bridge (W-9), along
Fisk Avenue between Brielle and Manasquan, has been reopened for vehicle and
pedestrian traffic.
During a routine inspection of the
Bridge, necessary repair work was found and
cracks in the steel beams on the movable span of the bridge were repaired.
“I’m glad that we were able to complete the work more
than a week ahead of schedule and before the anticipated major holiday traffic
to the area,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the
Department of Public Works and Engineering. “I want to thank the traveling public
in the area and, especially, the boating community for their understanding and
cooperation during the closure.”
“I had directed County personnel to have a complete
assessment of the Bridge performed so that we could make an informed decision
of the totality of the repairs needed and, fortunately, the detailed inspection
of the Bridge did not uncover any additional work needed at this time,” added
Commissioner Director Arnone. “However, the advancement of the deterioration of
the major bridge elements remains and the County will continue to monitor the
condition of the Bridge closely.”
The County’s emergency on-call contractor, Marbro,
Incorporated of Long Branch, NJ, performed the work.
