Florence Avenue Bridge will close
for replacement and upgrades
Signed detour will be set up; scheduled to be completed in January 2024

UNION BEACH, NJ - Construction to replace the Florence Avenue bridge (Bridge R-5), located on County Route 39 (Florence Avenue) in Union Beach, is expected to begin on or around the week of April 3. Construction requires the closure of Florence Avenue from St. John’s Avenue to Broadway. The project is scheduled to be completed by January 2024.

“This project highlights our commitment to continuing to upgrade the County’s infrastructure and we thank everyone for their patience during the construction process,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “During construction, a detour will be set up for vehicular traffic that utilizes Poole Avenue and Stone Road. Please plan for this detour if you are driving in the area.”

In total, the County maintains approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
