New Signage and Striping Improvements
along County Route 17 approved
Project to take place in Avon-By-The-Sea and Neptune City

FREEHOLD, NJ –The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners passed resolutions to install new signage and striping improvements along County Route 17 in Avon-By-The-Sea and Neptune City at the Commissioner meeting on April 25.

“This is an incredibly exciting project going forward in two of our shore towns,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Public Works and Engineering Department. “Safety is our number one priority for all modes of travel including motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians and we are thrilled to work with local municipalities to accomplish this goal.”

In Neptune City, the improvement project will proceed along a segment of County Route 17 (West Sylvania Ave.) between Brighton Ave. and State Highway 35 and will include the installation of high visibility pedestrian crosswalks, associated Americans with Disabilities (ADA) compliant ramps and other signage and striping improvements.

In Avon-By-The-Sea, the project will take place along County Route 17 (Sylvania Ave.) and include dedicated bicycle lanes along the Route from State Highway 71 to Ocean Ave.

In total, the County maintains approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
