County Medical
Reserve Corp. answers call
to assist
State’s Afghan Repatriation Program
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Medical Reserve
Corp (MRC) will be providing vaccination and support staff to the State’s
Afghan repatriation program at McGuire Air Force Base from Friday, Sept. 10 to
Monday, Sept. 13.
“I want to thank our Medical Reserve Corp. volunteers
for stepping up and responding to this last-minute assignment and answering the
call to help others,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone. “Our MRC
team stepped up throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to rise to the occasion
to assist those in need.”
“Our MRC will deploy for 12-hour shifts assisting
with vaccinations and community health support roles,” said Commissioner Deputy
Director Susan M. Kiley, liaison to Health and Human Services. “Thank you to our
MRC volunteers for your willingness to assist in this operation and showing
that Monmouth County always stands willing to support our federal, state and
local partners when needed.”
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) was founded by the
federal government shortly after 9/11. The national system brings together
people who have skills related to health care as well as citizen volunteers.
They serve as a team during times of emergency or need in their own community.
MRC units are trained and prepared to respond to emergencies, and they provide
education, outreach and various health services throughout the year. They
function as part of their local emergency preparedness teams.
In order to build a medical/administrative support
team in the case of a large response, a variety of backgrounds are needed. The
Monmouth County Health Department is looking for nurses, physicians, physician assistants,
crisis counselors, and translators to join the MRC. General volunteers for support services are
also needed. Volunteers must be 18 years
old, live or work in Monmouth County, and be a U.S. Citizen.
