Navesink River Road to close for bridge replacement

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Navesink River Road will close to traffic beginning on Monday, Sept. 13 to replace the bridge over McClees Creek.

The bridge is being replaced due to age and normal deterioration from vehicular traffic during its years in service. This project originally started construction in April of 2021 but due to issues underground, the work was postponed until after the summer.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this road closure causes as the bridge is being replaced,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “We appreciate the patience of those who travel on Navesink River Road during this construction project and will work to get it done as quickly as possible.”

The road will be closed to vehicular traffic. Drivers should plan to use an alternate route during construction. Detour signs have been posted throughout the area to assist drivers.

The construction is being performed by J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. of Hackensack.

The work is anticipated to be completed by the spring of 2022.

In total, the County maintains approximately 1,000 lane miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and beacons.
