Manasquan
MANASQUAN, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of County
Commissioners, in partnership with the Borough of Manasquan, held an
intersection improvements dedication ceremony today to announce intersection
safety improvements at County Route 20 (South Street/Broad Street) and Main
Street.
“I am happy to see these pedestrian and vehicular safety
improvements made in this busy downtown intersection,” said Commissioner Director
Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and
Engineering. “With the Borough of Manasquan, we have been able to successfully
install traffic calming elements and safety improvements to a bustling downtown
that has heavy vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic. This project makes
this area safer for everyone on the roads.”
These intersection improvements include solar powered pedestrian
activated flashing beacons, pedestrian bump outs, ADA ramps, resetting of paver
sidewalks, curbing, storm drainage, and milling and resurfacing of the entire
intersection along with upgraded signing and striping.
“The Borough of Manasquan appreciates Monmouth County's
efforts at making the intersection of Broad St., Main St. and South St. safer
for pedestrians and motor vehicles.
they've made the intersection much more pedestrian friendly and
installed traffic calming devices that will improve travel through the
intersection," Manasquan Mayor Edward Donovan.
The County constructed the improvements with its in-house
work forces and on-call contractors for a total cost of $135,000. The Borough
purchased and installed the flashing beacons at the designated school crossing on
Main Street and provided police traffic directors during the construction.
In total, the County maintains approximately 1,000 lane
miles of roads, 980 bridges and culverts and 250 traffic signals and
beacons.
