County prepares for Point in Time Survey
through Project Homeless Connect
Jan. 29 event to provide services to area homeless in four towns

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ – Monmouth County staff and a team of volunteers will be meeting with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and encouraging them to seek services and resources through Project Homeless Connect on Wednesday, Jan. 29 in Asbury Park, Freehold, Keansburg and Red Bank.

Citizens without a permanent residence or who are at risk of homelessness are encouraged to participate in Monmouth County’s 2020 Project Homeless Connect, formerly known as NJ Counts, by visiting one of these locations on Wednesday, Jan. 29:

  • Asbury Park – Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, 701 Memorial Drive, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Freehold – New Beginnings Agape Christian Center, 133 Throckmorton St., 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Keansburg – St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 247 Carr Ave., 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Red Bank – Pilgrim Baptist Church, 172 Shrewsbury Ave., 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

“If you are a Monmouth County resident in need of assistance, please come join us for food, clothing, health screenings and information about housing and employment services,” said Freeholder Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the Department of Human Services and Monmouth ACTS. “There is also going to be mobile outreach available to those who are unable to visit the event locations.”

The Monmouth County 2020 Project Homeless Connect coincides with HUD’s (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) nationwide Point in Time Survey, which helps obtain an accurate representation of the state of homelessness in America. The Point in Time Survey will ask individuals where they spent the night of Jan. 28 and other related questions to quantify the level of homelessness in the County and help those who are in need of services.

Statewide, the event is being coordinated by the not-for-profit organization, Monarch Housing Associates, that works to fulfill the vision that every person will have quality affordable, permanent housing that fosters freedom, independence and community integration.

Locally, the annual Countywide event helps gather information about individuals who are experiencing homelessness and offers information and services available through the County’s Department of Human Services, Health Department and not-for-profit organizations.

Project Homeless Connect fulfills the HUD requirement that the County completes an annual count. For more information about Project Homeless Connect, contact the Monmouth County Department of Human Services at 732-683-2102.
