Environmental Council to host annual “Ticks and Mosquitoes in Monmouth County” roundtable

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Environmental Council is hosting an annual roundtable event titled, “Ticks and Mosquitoes in Monmouth County: Resources to help you protect your family and pets” from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at the Monmouth County Agricultural Building, 4000 Kozloski Road.

The roundtable discussion with environmental and health professionals will focus on ticks and mosquitoes, what diseases they spread, how to protect family and pets and what Monmouth County is doing to control these insects.

“Each year, ticks and mosquitoes become more prevalent in Monmouth County, which compels us to host these information sessions for residents to learn more about these threats,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the County’s Planning Board. “I encourage all residents to take advantage of this free roundtable because awareness is the first step in protecting yourself, family and pets.”

Featured speakers include: Christopher P. Merkel, Monmouth County Public Health Coordinator; Dr. Deborah Breitstein, Veterinarian and Partner at Animal Health Care of Marlboro; Professor Dina Fonseca, Director of Rutgers University Center for Vector Biology and Victoria Thompson, Superintendent of Monmouth County Mosquito Control Division.

The presentations will be followed with a question and answer session with speakers. Guests will receive a copy of the new Eco-Tips Brochure: Dealing with Ticks and Mosquitoes. To browse eco-tips brochures from previous roundtables, click here.

“The Environmental Council, Health Department and Mosquito Control Division play such a key role in providing education to the public,” said Freeholder Susan M. Kiley, liaison to the County’s Health Department. “I am grateful to see environmental professionals, public health and healthcare providers working together as a team so residents are prepared and well-informed.”
