County Route 53 (Georgia Road) to Be Resurfaced

Work to be completed in time for holiday travel

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering has announced the schedule for resurfacing Georgia Road (County Route (CR) 53) from Jackson Mills Road (CR-23) to Turkey Swamp Park, a distance of approximately one mile.

The work will be performed entirely by a Monmouth County workforce and is part of the ongoing program to keep the condition of the County’s roadways in good repair prior to the start of the winter season.

“Monmouth County is committed to the safety of all who travel our roadways and this work helps keep our infrastructure in optimal condition,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Public Works and Engineering Department. “We understand that closures and detours can be frustrating, so our engineers are focused on minimizing disruptions to the traveling public. We thank everyone for their patience during this time period.”

All of the work will take place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. A detour will be established and maintained by the County’s Highway Division. Freehold Township Police officers will be on-site during working hours.

The schedule is as follows:

  • November 8 – Milling of northbound lane of CR- 53 (Georgia Road) from CR-23 (Jackson Mills Road) to Turkey Swamp Park.
  • November 9 – Paving of northbound lane of CR-53 (Georgia Road) from CR-23 (Jackson Mills Road) to Turkey Swamp Park.
  • November 15 - Mill southbound lane of CR-53 (Georgia Road) from CR-23 (Jackson Mills Road) to Turkey Swamp Park.
  • November 15 - Pave southbound lane of CR-53 (Georgia Road) from CR-23 (Jackson Mills Road) to Turkey Swamp Park.
  • November 20 - Layout and install permanent striping along County Route 53 (Georgia Road) from County Route 23 (Jackson Mills Road) to Turkey Swamp Park. Roadway to remain open with Freehold Township Police officer on-site to provide traffic control.

Motorists should remember to slow down in work zones, stay alert to changing traffic patterns and follow signed and directed detours.
