County History Grant Applications Available
September workshop sessions set for both grants

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Historical Commission (MCHC) has released its 2018 grant applications for the History Regrant Program and Historic Preservation Grant Program.

“I strongly encourage Monmouth County history-based organizations and other non-profit organizations with history programs to consider applying this year,” said Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the MCHC. “To assist potential awardees with the submission of complete and thorough grant applications, the Historic Commission will conduct grant-specific workshops in September.”

The workshop for the Monmouth County History Regrant Program is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11 in the Hall of Records Annex, Planning Board Conference Room (2nd floor) at Three East Main Street in Freehold. Two types of grants are available through the Regrant Program: General Operating Support for overall operations and management or Special Project funding for history projects and programs that are open and accessible to the public.

The workshop for ‘bricks and mortar” Historic Preservation Grants is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25 in the Hall of Records Annex, Planning Board Conference Room (2nd floor) at Three East Main Street in Freehold.

Attendees are encouraged to register via email to john.fabiano@co.monmouth.nj.us. Further information and applications can be found at VisitMonmouth.com, by clicking on the link to the Historical Commission or by calling 732-431-7460 ext. 7413.

The grant programs are competitive. The deadline to submit a Monmouth County History Regrant Program Declaration of Intent is Sept. 25, with the complete application due Oct. 30. Historic Preservation Grants applications are due November 6.

The 2018 History Regrant Program is made possible with funds provided by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a Division of the NJ Department of State. The goal of the program is to strengthen local history organizations, inspire projects to preserve and contribute to the local historic record, and increase public awareness and participation in local history programming.

The 2018 Monmouth County History Preservation Grant Program is funded by ongoing support from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

“Monmouth County has a unique and special role in the history of our nation and state,” said Director Burry. “Helping our local organizations share our past through programs and visits to historic sites is something the Board of Chosen Freeholders is proud to support.”

The MCHC was established by the Board of Chosen Freeholders in August 1988 for the preservation and conservation of Monmouth County history. The Commission’s principal programs provide grants, to maintain historic buildings and support history programming to preserve Monmouth County’s rich and diverse historic legacy.
