Mobile Laptops Improve Policing for Monmouth CountyFormer Sheriff Oxley and a Officer using the Mobile Laptop

In 2001, the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office oversaw the installation of 225 Mobile Computer Terminal (MCT) systems in police vehicles of 35 local law enforcement agencies. This is the largest multi-jurisdictional mobile computer system for law enforcement agencies in the state of New Jersey. The $3.1 million Sheriff's Office MCT project features vehicle-mounted, "ruggedized" lap top computers. The computers empower law enforcement officers with unprecedented access to information networks and communication resources. MCTs transmit and receive e-mail communications through secure, wireless modems. Officers will be able to generate and transmit electronic reports directly from the incident scene. The system will link participating law enforcement agencies, and provide real-time access to the online information.
