Inmate Education That Works
Through
a partnership established in November, 2007 with the Monmouth-Ocean
Educational Services Commission (MOESC), the Monmouth County
Correctional Institution (MCCI) provides an opportunity for inmates
to achieve General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) status in an expedited
manner.
The (18) week computer-enhanced program, also
known as Virtual Learning, prepares inmates for the G.E.D. testing phase. Skills
acquired and subjects studied are taught and monitored by an on-site teacher and
remote-site staff.
The program employs Timothy Nogiera, Director of
MOESC, Maria Penzimer (Supervisor) and Vincent Noviello (teacher). Education is the
key to bridging the inmates to enhanced occupational opportunities and diminished
recidivism rates.
