The bridge had preveiosly been closed for seven months while repair work to rehabilitate the bridge’s 100-foot, center bascule span was completed. The weight weight limit was returned to 15 tons when the bridge was reopened. Monmouth County is now moving forward with plans to replace the Oceanic Bridge in the next five to 10 years. Current plans call for the existing bridge to stay in place during construction.
Status reports about the rehabilitation are available on the Oceanic Bridge Project page.
