Seasonal Mosquito Control Positions

Start Date: On or after April 19, 2008

End Date: Before or on October 15, 2008

Salary: $9/hour, 40 hours per week

Work hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday-Friday

 

Asian Tiger Mosquito Field Technicians (3 Positions)

Working with a staff biologist/entomologist, employees will participate in a study of the Asian tiger mosquito, an invasive, aggressive mosquito that was first discovered in Monmouth County in 1995. Employee will assist with trapping this mosquito, identifying larval and adult mosquito habitats, and exploring integrated pest management techniques to suppress this mosquito population. Knowledge of basic biology/ecology, scientific method and record-keeping is desirable. Occasional weekend or evening hours may occur as part of the study.
Coursework in science/biology recommended
Map reading, record keeping skills desirable
Must be 18 years or older
Must have valid NJ basic driver's license (no provisional license)

 

Surveillance Program Technicians

NJ Light Trap collection: (1 position)
Seasonal employee will collect samples on a daily basis from traps at multiple, fixed locations throughout Monmouth County.
Must be independent worker with good driving record and map reading skills.
Must be 18 years or older
Must have valid NJ basic driver's license (no provisional licenses) and good driving record

Mosquito-borne disease surveillance: (1 position)
Primary tasks include setting various traps and collecting live mosquito samples on a daily basis as well as assisting with sentinel chicken program. Interest/coursework in biology, ecology desirable
Map reading, record keeping skills desirable
Must be 18 years or older
Must have valid NJ basic driver's license (no provisional license) and good driving record

 

Pesticide Operators (6-8 positions available)

After undergoing NJDEP approved training, a seasonal employee will primarily work as a certified pesticide operator under the supervision and direction of a mosquito control inspector/licensed applicator. The seasonal employee will become familiar with basic mosquito biology and habitat and participate in an integrated pest management approach to mosquito control. Working in teams of two, the seasonal employee will be responsible to inspect known mosquito habitats, apply appropriate control and maintain accurate records of inspection and action taken. Work is primarily outdoors.
Map reading, record keeping skills desirable
Must be 18 years or older
Must have valid NJ basic driver's license (no provisional licenses) and good driving record

 

Receptionist/data-entry (1 position)

Answer phone and take requests for service from general public. Enter initial request and inspection results into computer database. Work hours may be adjusted to provide office coverage to 5:00 pm.
Good people skills
Familiarity with Microsoft Access required
Map reading skills desirable
Must be 18 years or older
