Introduction:

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has received funding under the Section 309 Coastal Zone Enhancement Grant Program to undertake a Sustainable Coastal Watershed Management Planning project. Task 4 of this project is listed as "Identification of Effective Tools" which will ultimately result in a strategy of combining voluntary, educational, and regulatory approaches for addressing issues of concern in the watershed.

The first steps toward developing such a strategy include identifying and evaluating the "tools" already existing within the watershed. Through their regular operations, several county and municipal agencies have the opportunity to positively impact the watershed through existing operations and programs.

The Monmouth County Water Resources Association developed and distributed a survey form to various municipal, county, regional agencies and nonprofit organizations to identify existing functions, programs and tools in the Manasquan Watershed. Some state and federal programs participating in the Manasquan Watershed Group were included in the survey. In addition, the MCWRA conducted a limited Internet search for pertinent programs and tools on watershed management. This report reflects the results of the survey and Internet search.
