The Manasquan Watershed Management Group

Year 1 Reports

Welcome. The Manasquan Watershed Management Group invites you to explore the various documents of the Manasquan River Watershed Initial Characterization and Assessment Report.

The group was organized in 1998 to coordinate the activities of local government, state and federal agencies and the coastal community to enhance the Manasquan River Watershed. The goalof the MWMG is to develop a strategy to manage the valuable resources of the Manasquan River and the surrounding landscape thereby protecting and preserving the watershed for future generations.

The strategy proposed focuses on the entire watershed with specific resources dedicated to the coastal boundary. Monmouth County has been identified a coastal county with urban coastal communities, suburban development and agricultural land uses and presents a good example for the development of this strategic approach. This characterization document will help the Manasquan Watershed Management Group assess the current condition of the watershed and establish baseline data which includes areas of growth, sensitive resources, impacts which threaten the watershed and trends in the watershed’s overall health.

The Manasquan Watershed Management Group has prepared this tool to share the group’s findings in an easy to use format. As you review these documents, you can make your own observations from the data we have gathered and share your views with other stakeholders in the Manasquan watershed or the other watershed groups.

The Manasquan Watershed Group would like to thank the many agencies and participants who have made this characterization a reality. We look forward to success in improving the Manasquan River watershed for today and tomorrow.
