The Commissioners of the MCMEC are commited to conducting their activities utilizing an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. The program is based on the standards adopted by the New Jersey Mosquito Control Association as an EPA approved sub-partner of the American Mosquito Control Association's, Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program.
The MCMEC has had an active mosquito control program since 1914. The efforts of this program have been intsrumental in relieving the residents of Monouth County from mosquito-borne diseases and pestiferous mosquito problems. Since 1976, the Commission has obtained permits from State and Federal agencies to undertake activities of remediating wetland habitat. The Water Management Program of the Commission servest to enhance the environment while reducing mosquito-breeding habitat. In 1998, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders designated the MCMEC as the first Mosquito Commission in New Jersey to provide services to educate County residents about ticks the diseases they can transmit. The Tick-borne Diseases Program monitors tick vector populations within the county, as well as provides educational materials to the public.
