FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

September is national Library Card Sign-up Month
It’s time to rediscover your local libraries
Yanina Spivak and her son Gabriel recently became library cardholders with the assistance of library staffer Sheila Rosen (rear) and Freeholder Lillian G. Burry (far right).
MANALAPAN, NJ – September is Library Card Sign-up Month and patrons are encouraged to discover their local library by checking out what’s new and signing up for a library card if they do not have one already.
Cards for the Monmouth County Library System are free to anyone living or owning property in one of the library’s member municipalities and $100 annually for nonmembers.
The Monmouth County Library System serves its community – from toddlers to teens, young professionals to seniors, new readers to scholars. In keeping with the library’s motto, “Read, Explore, Access, Discover!,” having a library card fully opens up a wealth of opportunities and information.
“There is so much that the library has to offer,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the county’s library system. “Cardholders can check out books, movies, magazines, music CDs, eBooks, and more – all for free with their library card.”
The library is a great place for families, too. Children can get homework help, find great books to read and attend story hour programs; parents can spend quality time with their children and encourage the valuable habits of reading and learning.
The Monmouth County Library reminds parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.
During Library Card Sign-up Month, library users are encouraged to visit their local libraries to borrow materials, research topics using a variety of print and online resources, get on the Internet via wired access, or bring a laptop to enjoy wireless hotspot connectivity at all branches. Patrons can even enjoy free programs, both educational and entertainment.
To sign up for a library card, visit the Headquarters Library in Manalapan, Eastern Branch in Shrewsbury, or any other branch location including Allentown, Colts Neck, Hazlet, Holmdel, Howell, Marlboro, Ocean Township, Oceanport, and Wall Township. To explore what the library has to offer, check out the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com
Observed since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month is a campaign promoted by public libraries nationwide in cooperation with the American Library Association (ALA).
