FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Historical Commission (MCHC) will be holding two grant application workshops this September: one for its new regrant program for operating expenses and special projects and a second session dedicated to its annual historic preservation grants program.

· The workshop for the new Monmouth County History Regrant Program is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in the Hall of Records Annex, Planning Board Conference Room (2nd floor) at Three East Main Street in Freehold.

· The workshop for the ‘bricks and mortar” historic preservation grants is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26 in the Hall of Records Annex, Planning Board Conference Room (2nd floor) at Three East Main Street in Freehold.

Attendees are encouraged to register via email. Further information and applications can be found at www.visitmonmouth.com, by clicking on the link to the Historical Commission or by calling 732-431-7460 ext. 7413.

“I strongly encourage representatives from our many historic organizations to attend one or both of the workshops,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the MCHC. “Monmouth County has a unique and special role in the history of our nation and state. The new regrant program provides local municipalities and non-profit organizations with a unique opportunity for funding operating expenses or supporting a new history project.”

Both programs are competitive. Local history-based organizations and other non-profit organizations with history programs should consider applying.

The 2017 Monmouth County History Preservation Grant Program is funded by ongoing support from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The 2017 regrant program is made possible funds provided by the New Jersey Historical Commission, a Division of the NJ Department of State, to strengthen local history organizations, inspire projects to preserve and contribute to the local historic record, and increase public awareness and participation in local history programming.

The Monmouth County Historical Commission was created by the Board of Chosen Freeholders for the preservation and conservation of Monmouth County history. Established in August 1988, its principal programs provide grants, to maintain historic buildings and support history programming to preserve Monmouth County’s rich and diverse historic legacy.
