Public info sessions set
for Three Bridges project
Public comment period opens with May 24 meetings

MANASQUAN, NJ – On Tuesday, May 24, Monmouth County will hold two public information centers about the status of Monmouth County’s Three Bridges (W-7, W-8 and W-9) over Debbie’s Creek and The Glimmer Glass in the Boroughs of Manasquan and Brielle.
  • A daytime meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Curtis House, 644 Union Lane in Brielle. Curtis House is located across from the Brielle Public Works yard entrance between Howell Drive and Legg Place.
  • An evening meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Manasquan Borough Hall, 201 East Main Street in Manasquan.

Both meetings will be conducted in an “open house” format where attendees will have an opportunity to review exhibits of the existing bridges, culvert and road conditions.

Members of the Three Bridges Project Team will be on hand to answer questions and to explain the evaluation and feedback process to residents, local officials and the business community.

Citizen participation at these meetings will be helpful in developing a detailed evaluation and providing the public with a better understanding of the complexities of the project. An information sheet with the Three Bridges Project needs, goals and objectives is available on the project website at www.MonmouthCountyThreeBridges.com.

The purpose of the project is to provide safe and efficient crossing for pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle travel by addressing the geometric, structural, operational and maintenance deficiencies of all three existing structures:

  • Bridge W-7 is on Green Avenue over Debbie’s Creek. The bridge was constructed 1944 and is a fixed, seven span timber bridge that measures 120 feet long.
  • Structure W-8 is on Fisk Avenue Culvert between Debbie’s Creek and The Glimmer Glass. This is a culvert that was constructed in 1946. It is an 80-inch by 80-inch flat bottom reinforced concrete pipe structure with a 34.8- foot curb to curb roadway.
  • Bridge W-9, known as the Glimmer Glass Bridge, is on Brielle Road over The Glimmer Glass. The original bridge was constructed 1889; the movable bascule span was installed in 1938; a major bridge reconstruction and a reduced length to the approach structure was completed in 1950. The bridge was placed on the State and National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Emergency interim repairs to the bridge deck were completed in 2014.

The public is encouraged to actively participate by providing input on the project’s purpose and needs at the meeting, by mail or email. For those unable to attend and provide comment at the meetings, the County will accept written comments through Thursday, June 23, 2016.

Written comments should be sent by email to engineer@co.monmouth.nj.us, by fax to 732-431-7765 or by mail to Inkyung Englehart, Project Coordinator, Monmouth County Department of Public Works, Division of Engineering, Hall of Records Annex, 3 East Main St, 3rd Floor, Freehold, NJ 07728.

Members of the project team include representatives from the Monmouth County Department of Public Works & Engineering, North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, the New Jersey Department of Transportation and The RBA Group, Inc.

Monmouth County is holding these meetings in cooperation with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. The meetings are being conducted in conformance with federal and state regulations.
