County Clerk announces
Archives Day keynote speaker

Specialist Professor of Public History Melissa Ziobro to give address

Monmouth University Specialist Professor of Public History Melissa Ziobro will give the keynote address at Archives and History Day on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan.

MANALAPAN, NJ –Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon announced the keynote speaker at the Oct. 3 Archives and History Day will be Monmouth University Specialist Professor of Public History Melissa Ziobro.

“Archives and History Day provides the opportunity to learn about the history of Monmouth County and hear rich stories from people who have studied it,” said Hanlon. “This year’s theme is the World War I Era in New Jersey from approximately 1910 to 1920 and Professor Ziobro will discuss the origins and role of Fort Monmouth during the conflict.”

"The name ‘Monmouth’ has been synonymous with the defense of freedom since our country’s inception,” said Monmouth County Archivist Gary D. Saretzky. “Named for the brave soldiers who gave their lives just a few miles away at the Battle of Monmouth Court House in 1778, Fort Monmouth was the site of some of the most significant communications and electronics breakthroughs in military history.”

Archives and History Day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan.

More than 60 local and state history organizations will set-up displays about topics related to New Jersey history and their organization. Attendees are encouraged to dress in period costume from any era and to donate a history-related prize for the annual History Game.

The complete event also includes a History Forum, awards presentations, and a tour of the Monmouth County Archives, for which reservation is required.
