FREEHOLD, NJ – Monmouth County residents who subscribe to Sirius XM Radio may be entitled to compensation as part of a multi-state settlement.

The settlement was announced in December 2014 and resolves allegations that the satellite radio company violated consumer protection laws through a variety of misleading, unfair and deceptive business practices.

“Every consumer has the right to protection against deceitful business practices,” said Annmarie Howley, director of Monmouth County’s Division of Consumer Affairs. “If you subscribe to Sirius XM Radio, call the State Division of Consumer Affairs to see if you are entitled to compensation under this settlement.”

According to consumer complaints, allegations included failure to honor contract cancellation requests, the automatic renewal of contracts without consumers' consent, and the charging of unauthorized fees, among other things.

To file a complaint, call 1-800-242-5846 or go to www.njconsumeraffairs.gov.

“If you ever feel that a business you deal with is being unfair or deceptive, call the Monmouth County Division of Consumer Affairs,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry. “The Consumer Affairs staff works not only for Monmouth County residents, but for any resident who is having difficulty dealing with a business located in Monmouth County.”

Monmouth County Consumer Affairs will help consumers resolve all types of consumer-related issues.
