Freeholders recognize Middletown state champions

Present team members with certificates at Board of Education meeting

 

FREEHOLD, NJ – On Tuesday, March 24, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders recognized Middletown teams who took home New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) State Championship titles.

Three Freeholders attended Middletown’s Board of Education meeting to present certificates of recognition to the team members.

“These dedicated young men and women should be very proud of their State Championship titles,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso. “Through hard work and dedication, they have brought honor to their schools, their families and the entire County.” Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, Freeholder John P. Curley and Freeholder Deputy Director present certificates of recognition to Middletown South High School’s Eagles girls basketball team for winning the 2014-15 NJSIAA Public Group III Girls Basketball Championship at the Middletown Board of Education meeting on March 24.

Certificates were presented to the members of Middletown South High School’s Eagles girls basketball team for winning the 2014-15 NJSIAA Public Group III Girls Basketball Championship and to Middletown North High School’s Lions ice hockey team for winning the 2015 Public B State NJSIAA/ Devils Ice Hockey Championship.

“This is the first Group III State Championship title for South’s Eagles girls basketball team,” said Freeholder John P. Curley. “This is a tremendous accomplishment and it is a privilege for us to celebrate with you this evening.”

Middletown South High School’s Eagles girls basketball team was led by Head Coach Thomas Brennan, Assistant Coaches Jessie Chalmers, Thomas Rooney and Volunteer Coaches Randy Thomas and Joseph Benbrook. The roster of players included: Alexandra Balsamo, Gabrielle Cook, Curtis Madison, Haley Dalonzo, Angela DeBartolome, Jill Falvey, Hannah Fite, Stephanie Karcz, Roberta Montes, Brianne Naughton, and Julia Valkos.

“These dedicated young men of North’s Lions ice hockey team had a stand-out year,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone. “By training and playing with passion and skill they earned the school’s first ice hockey state championship title.” Freeholder John P. Curley, Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone and Freeholder Deputy Director present certificates of recognition to Middletown North High School’s Lions ice hockey team for winning the 2015 Public B State NJSIAA/ Devils Ice Hockey Championship at the Middletown Board of Education meeting on March 24.

Middletown North High School’s Lions ice hockey team was led by Coach Matt Clemente. The roster of players that included: Khristian Acosta, Dylan Boneicki, Brian Colucci, Mike Corella, Sean Crimmins, Ryan Davidson, Pete Demonte, John Dinnocenzo, Nick Dodd, Kevin Felice, Timmy Felice, Jake Frontera, Zack Gazette, Kyle Goworak, Evan Hall, Robert Hampton, Jack Heuer, Nick Kirch, Anthony Manfredi, Nick Paterno, Justin Skelly, Kevin Stager, Thomas Terranova, Kevin Toland and Vincent Tomassetti.

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, founded in 1918, is a voluntary, non-profit organization made up of 433 accredited public, private and non-public high schools in the state. The NJSIAA conducts tournaments, and crowns champions in thirty one sports.
