4-H Teen Council Seedling Sale going on now

Orders accepted until April 26; May 9 pickup

FREEHOLD, NJ –There may be snow in the forecast, but now is the time to plan your 2015 garden and consider planting trees in your landscape.

The Monmouth County 4-H Teen Council may have just the right species of evergreen or deciduous trees at the right price:
  • Colorado Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, Douglas Fir and White Pines are the four varieties of evergreen seedlings available in bundles of 25 seedlings for $22.
  • Deciduous seedlings available in bundles of 10 are Kousa Dogwood (tree), Silky Dogwood (shrub) and Common Lilac (shrub). Deciduous seedling bundles are $15 per bundle.

Each bundle contains a single variety of seedlings 2 or 3 years old and between 6 and 24 inches tall.

“This is the Teen Council’s primary and most popular fundraiser of the year,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the Cooperative Extension Service. “The teens use money raised from this sale to offset the cost of community service projects, the annual state teen leadership conference and other worthwhile teen activities.”

You can order the seedlings from the 4-H Teen Council until April 28. For an order form and additional information about each variety, please email claudia.lammers@co.monmouth.nj.us or call the County 4-H office at 732-431-7260, ext. 7264.

The seedlings will be available for pickup 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, May 9 at the Monmouth County Agriculture Building, 4000 Kozloski Rd., Freehold.

The County’s 4-H Teen Council is comprised of high school youth who meet, plan and participate in activities that develop leadership skills, address community needs and help them serve as role models and teachers for younger 4-H’ers throughout the county.

The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of Rutgers Cooperative Extension Service. 4-H offers educational programs to all youth, kindergarten through grade 12, on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
