Seek to prevent access into U.S. by undocumented immigrants

 

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders voted unanimously to pass a resolution supporting any and all action necessary to prevent access by undocumented immigrants, including unaccompanied minors, into the United States.

 

“America can no longer handle the influx of people that are coming into this country illegally,” said Freeholder John P. Curley, who introduced the resolution. “Our towns are stressed with the school systems. We are forced to educate, feed and clothe people and we don’t have the resources to do that.”

 

It has been reported that thousands of unaccompanied minors from several Central American countries have entered the United States in recent months and are being moved from the country’s border states to other locations around the nation, including the Borough of Freehold.

 

“I’d like to think that we are a country of laws and we need to get back to maintaining our integrity,” said Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry. “We need to take action knowing that, yes, we have a stake in this country and we want to keep it.”

 

The resolution states that the presence of undocumented immigrants, including unaccompanied minors, creates a drain on the Country’s economic resources along with creating a financial burden on the Country’s citizens and taxpayers.

 

“I am in strong support of this resolution and I thank the Board for bringing it to the table,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Gary J. Rich, Sr. “People need to get involved and pay attention to what is around them, because it affects our economy and our way of life.”

 

“My family came from Italy, but they worked hard and they came here legally,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone. “Illegal immigration affects our taxes, especially school taxes which are higher because of the added children that are here illegally. It is important for everyone to gain insight on the real effects of illegal immigration.”

 

The resolution states that the Freeholders call upon the President, United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives to bring forth whatever means necessary to support the U.S. border states in securing the border.

 

“Whatever we, as a Board, can do to stem the tide, we will,” said Freeholder Serena DiMaso. “I would like to thank everyone who came to the Freeholder meeting and spoke about this issue and its importance to our communities.”

 

A copy of the resolution has been sent to Barack Obama, President of the United States, John A. Boehner, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Harry Reid, Majority Leader of the United States Senate, Cory Booker, United States Senator, United States Congressmen Christopher H. Smith and Frank Pallone, Jr., Governor Chris Christie, President of the New Jersey State Senate Steve Sweeney, Speaker of the General Assembly Vincent Prieto, the Monmouth County Legislative Delegation, all 21 New Jersey Boards of Chosen Freeholders and all 53 Monmouth County municipalities.
