Lucky fairgoers get at home help
Ten winners receive healthy home buckets; storm prep bags

FREEHOLD, NJ – Last week, 10 lucky visitors to the Monmouth County Fair went home winners after stopping by the Monmouth County government tent!

75,500 people attended the 40th annual Fair and tasted fair food, rode the rides, explored the 4-H animal exhibits and touched a truck, but more than a 1,000 fairgoers also took the time to stop by the Monmouth County Government booth, sign up for a County email subscription and enter a free drawing for a healthy home bucket or an emergency preparedness bag.

“Every year, Monmouth County showcases our great quality of life at the Monmouth County Fair,” Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry said. “This year 10 people had their names selected in the County’s free drawing; they really won twice, because they will also receive a County’s email subscription.”

“The Health Department provided the items for the free drawing that are both exciting and practical,” said Freeholder John P. Curley, liaison to the County Health Department. “The County Health Department staff has been actively promoting ways to help residents make their homes clean and healthy places to live. These kits provide people with the tools to make that happen.”

Each night, two winners were selected: one for the healthy home bucket and one for the storm emergency bag.

The healthy home bucket included items such as a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, a healthy home guide and cleaning supplies. If you would like to know how to make your home more healthy, check out information from the national Centers for Disease Control at http://www.cdc.gov/healthyhomes/byroom/index.html.

The storm emergency bag includes a blanket, first-aid kit and a bag with toiletries that can be kept in the home or car in case of emergencies. To put together your own emergency preparedness bag, log onto www.ready.gov.

The winners of the free drawing were notified by email and made arrangements to pick-up their prizes this week form the Department of Public Information and Tourism at 3 East Main St. in the Hall of Records Annex in Freehold Borough.
