Oceanic Bridge maintenance work scheduled

Regular maintenance on bascule span Thursday night

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The Oceanic Bridge (S-31) over the Navesink River will undergo routine maintenance repairs, weather permitting, to its center bascule span from 9 p.m. Thursday, June 12 to 5 a.m. Friday, June 13.

The overnight closure will allow the Monmouth County Division of Bridges staff to perform routine maintenance to the bridge’s movable section.

“This work must be done to keep the Oceanic Bridge in working condition during its regular operating season,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “We appreciate the patience of the travelling public while we work to perform this regular maintenance. Monmouth County works to keep its bridges in safe, working order.”

The bridge will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic while the work is conducted. Motorists should plan an alternate route during the overnight hours.

Motor vehicle traffic on Bingham Avenue between Rumson and Middletown (CR-8) can either travel west through Fair Haven and Red Bank to Middletown or travel east through Sea Bright and Highlands to Middletown.

“The work is being done overnight,” said John W. Tobia, director of the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering. “This schedule provides minimal disruption to the majority of travelers.”
