Manasquan team brings home honors
Girls basketball team scores three-point distinction
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders proclaimed April 26, 2012 as “Manasquan Warriors Day” and commended the members of the Manasquan High School girls’ basketball team for bringing honor and distinction to themselves, their school and their community.
“These dedicated young women of the Manasquan High School basketball team were big winners this year,” Freeholder Serena DiMaso said. “By training and playing with enthusiasm and skill they became the first team in the high school’s history to reach the state Tournament of Champions and to also win the championship.”
The members of the 2012 team were: Sam Sullivan; Michaela Mabrey; Katelynn Flaherty; Marina Mabrey; Amanda Hagaman; Courtney Hagaman; Melissa Pavia; Gretchen Fay; Ellie Masonius; Molly Bryant; Eva Hart, Chiara Palombi and Bridget Ford. Each player received an individual certificate of recognition from the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
Led by third-year head coach Felix Romero, the Warriors finished its landmark season by defeating Gill St. Bernard of Gladstone in the Tournament of Champions championship game. On the way to the title they also won the Central C Division, the WOBM Christmas Tournament and the Group III State Championship. At the conclusion of the 2012 season the Manasquan Warriors were ranked No. 1 in New Jersey, No.1 in the Tri-State Region, No. 4 team in the East Coast and No. 17 team in the country.
The Board of Chosen Freeholders proudly joined the faculty, parents and fans in honoring the 2012 Warrior of Manasquan High School for their 31-2 season.
